Who is the Mississippi Native Plant Society

The Mississippi Native Plant Society provides a forum for learning about our state's ecosystems and the plants that exist within them. We meet to share a love of the wonders of the natural flora of our state.

HISTORY
The Mississippi Native Plant Society was formed in 1980 to help us learn about and enjoy the plants native to our region.

We have a wealth of beautiful and ecologically vital plants of which many are endangered or threatened with extinction.

Our goal is to make the public aware of the importance of our rich biological heritage and provide up-to-date plant information for home gardens and woodlands.

Why Use Native Plants

Because they
  • perform better in local soils and climates,
  • they are part of our rich biological heritage,
  • they provide food and habitat for many birds, insects and other animals
  • they are as beautiful as any exotic plant,
  • they are easy
