WELCOME TO THE MISSISSIPPI NATIVE PLANT SOCIETY

Who is the Mississippi Native Plant Society?

We are plant professionals including biologists, horticulturists and conservationists.  We are also the typical home gardener or anyone interested in learning more about our native plants.

We all share a passion for nature and the plants native to our state.  We also enjoy meeting and networking with other like-minded individuals.

Members have numerous opportunities to contribute and to learn by participating in organized field trips to interesting natural areas throughout the state and by attending annual meetings packed with activities and seminars by experts.

Members also receive a quarterly newsletter filled with useful articles on plants and information on upcoming events.

Mission

The Mississippi Native Plant Society was formed in 1980 to provide a forum for learning about our state's ecosystems and the plants that exist within them.  Our goal is to provide educational opportunities and to encourage the conservation and utilization of native plants.

Why use native plants?
  • Adapted to our climate and soils
  • Provide food and habitat for wildlife
  • Provide diversity in form, texture, and color to fit any landscape
    style
  • Provide us with a sense of place
  • Preserve our rich biological heritage
  • Hardy, easy to grow once established
